The Scene

A new way to connect: Cape Town's cultural network

Big social media platforms are not designed for us. The Scene Cape Town is a digital network built by local artists for the city's cultural sector. Find events, message creatives, and connect directly with local arts and culture, without the noise of global algorithms.

Silver, gold, rainbow: the more curators back an event, the more it stands out.

How curation looks

You can see who backed it

We partner with local curators - tastemakers who've spent years building trust with their communities. Each week, they select which events they'd like to throw their weight behind, and the guide shows it.

The Scene's live events map of Cape Town on a Saturday, with pins across Green Point, the city bowl, Gardens, Oranjezicht and Wynberg. A legend shows the curation ladder: listed, two curators, three curators, four or more curators, and exhibitions.
One night, on the map. Every pin is an event someone listed. The colour is how many curators backed it. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors · tiles by CARTO

Inside the app

One network. Four ways to connect.

The Scene brings Cape Town's events, conversations, archive, and journalism into a single, human-curated space.

Scene

A human-curated events guide for Cape Town: every gig, show, and cultural happening in your pocket. Instead of algorithmic feeds, we've partnered with local curators to bring you their recommendations. If you don't know where to go, start with what the community already trusts.

  • Daily, weekly, and monthly calendar views, so tonight and this month are easy to plan
  • Submit your own event for inclusion on the event guide, straight from the app
  • Purchase tickets through trusted sites such as Quicket, Fixr, Webtickets & more without ever leaving the app
  • Check in with your favourite promoters and curators to keep up with the events and communities you love

Social

Chat with Cape Town's creatives, hear straight from your favourite venues and artists, and buy, sell, or trade with the community.

Culture

Streaming killed the local CD shop. The Scene Cape Town is bringing it back. Culture is Cape Town's digital gallery and record shop: pop in to browse, discover, and support local podcasts, photography, short films, and music.

Zine

A place to read long-form commentary and journalism about the city's culture, from established publications and independent writers, for people tired of short-form scrolling.

Who it's for

Built for all creatives in Cape Town

Wherever you sit, The Scene gives you a direct line to the city's audiences, bypassing opaque algorithms.

Who We Are

We are a group of artists who believe that platforms can, and should, be built to serve the people that use them.

We believe in ‘Sovereign Social’ technology. We stand for local ownership & governance, human curation, opt-in data, and zero algorithmic feed manipulation, by design.
